Important Message:

April 7, 2020

Gov. Noem has asked that schools remain closed for the rest of the 2019-20 school year. McLaughlin Schools will continue providing learning opportunities that are currently in place. McLaughlin Schools will also continue with our daily lunch program until further notice. The South Dakota Department of Education has also recommended to follow our current school calendar and to adhere to the end of school dates for students and staff. Update 24 March, 2020
At the request of Governor Noem all school districts in South Dakota 
will be closed until May 1, 2020. This includes all school related activities including the 2020 Prom activities, scheduled during the month of April. The McLaughlin administration and board of education will continue to monitor the situation daily as we strongly believe the health and safety of all our students, staff, and community is of utmost importance. Our sack lunch distribution will continue at the normal times Monday thru Friday from 11:00am MT – 11:45am MT. The teachers and principals will continue to provide each student with enrichment materials and packets throughout this time away from school as well. Please encourage your children or grandchildren to stay engaged with these educational materials that are being sent home.

Update 17 March, 2020

At the request of Governor Noem to close all schools in the state for another week, McLaughlin Schools will be closed again the week of March 23 to March 27. The  McLaughlin administration and board of education will continue to monitor the situation daily as we strongly believe the health and safety of all our students, staff, and community is of utmost importance.

Look for more information soon from McLaughlin School District in reference to sack lunch distribution starting this coming Monday, March 23, 2020, and some educational enrichment opportunities for our students during this transition time from school to home.

Updated March 22, 2020 - 
Šuŋgwátȟogla Thiwáhe, the school district will have packets for all students (Pre-K-12) available at the lunch pick up sites (At the post offices of Rock Creek, Little Eagle and at the community building in Kenel. We will also provide a pickup location in front of the School’s District Office in McLaughlin. Times are 11:00-11:45 MT or 12:00-12:45 CT each day from Monday March 23rd to Friday March 27th). Please indicate which grade your child is in, and the lunch employees will get the correct packet for you. Extra packets will be available if you contact the school administration via email. These packets will have homework for the weeks of March 23-27th and for March 30-April 3rd in case the quarantine continues. There should also be cover letters with more detailed explanations in each packet from the principals and teachers. Please reach out to any of the emails provided for assistance with the homework, and we hope you continue to have a safe time during this period.

Additional Information about Students who receive Special Education and Related Services
In addition to the general education packets that will be distributed at all the lunch drop sites, those students who are on Individual Education Plans and receive direct instruction will also have an additional flex learning packet that specifically addresses his/her goals in the areas of academics, speech and language, fine motor, and gross motor. Please ask for this packet for your child at the specific delivery site in the town that you currently live in.
