OUR MISSION STATEMENT:
PRESS RELEASE #4
McLaughlin received enormous support from all over the nation
yesterday. Wearing Black and Orange became the choice attire all over the
Standing Rock reservation and surrounding areas. Sororities in Florida,
Hospitals in Montana and alumni in Colorado all reached out and offered their
support in wearing orange and black with us.
Two students are home, as
well as one of the teachers. One student will be released today.
Again, the school board, administration and staff want to thank all of you for
your support and prayers.
PRESS RELEASE #3
One staff member and two students will return to McLaughlin
today. McLaughlin School, Sitting Bull
College, Standing Rock Middle School and other schools and businesses across
the Standing Rock Reservation are wearing black and orange, the school colors,
in support of our families and staff still in Colorado. Pictures will be available on our website.
groups have started funds for families and staff members. Sacheen Whitetail Cross, Director of the
Immersion School and a graduate of McLaughlin is doing a silent auction and
fundraiser. Our Teach for America
teachers and South Dakota Teach for America staff have started a fund for the
Mac7. The link to this fundraiser will
be posted on our school’s website.
Sitting Bull School staff members started a fund for Kyle Henderson. This link can also be found on our school’s
website. Ardyce Taken Alive is creating a
community action project in support of our teacher and wrestling coach, Kyle
Henderson. A banner in his support can
be signed at the McLaughlin School.
McLaughlin staff has received communication from two of the people
who were first on the scene of the accident, sharing their good wishes and
prayers as well as their joy at the progress of the students and staff. The parents received a visit from a member of
the Denver March Powwow committee sharing their support and a gift for each
family. McLaughlin graduates living in
the Denver area have provided support to the families by sharing gift baskets
and contacts with the staff and students.

PRESS RELEASE #2
McLaughlin Public School and our school board, administration and
staff want to thank you for your prayers and support. The staff and students involved in the
accident have been well taken care of in the Colorado hospitals where 6 of the
7 are being cared for. One student will
be released possibly today to return home.
One staff member was released.

Statement from a parent of one of the students
I want to thank the McLaughlin School District and staff for how
quickly they responded and brought us to Denver to see my child. I am so glad my child is alive and safe. We are thankful for all the calls and texts
showing concern for our family.
Statement from School Superintendent Pat Stone
Our families and children have been together since Monday evening
when the parents and I flew in to be with them.
We are so grateful for the outpouring of care and support from the
people at home and here in Colorado. We
expect two students to be released to travel home by the end of the week. One staff member has been released. I will be here to support the others as long
March 24 at approximately 8:00 am, 2 teachers and 5 students were injured in a
motor vehicle accident in Colorado. The students and
teachers were returning home after attending the Denver March
Powwow. One staff member has been released from the
hospital. Two students are scheduled to be released in the next few
days. Family members of the students and staff have been flown to
area hospitals and are being provided support and accommodations by the
school. Families of the students and staff are grateful for all the
community support. The school superintendent and principal are both in
Colorado providing assistance to the families, students and staff. A
prayer service was conducted at the school Monday. Counselors are
available to talk with staff and students as needed. The school is
working to protect the privacy of the students and staff involved, so names
will not be released at this time. More updates will be provided as
they become available.
